Agge federated communities need development in many areas, but their most fundamental and urgent need is shoreline reclamation and protection. There is little value in planning schools, markets, healthcare facilities, fishing harbours, roads and other economic projects for a community whose land is steadily disappearing into the Atlantic Ocean. Every other development aspiration depends on one basic condition: Agge must continue to have a secure homeland on which its people can live, work and build their future.
For decades, ocean surges and shoreline erosion have washed away significant portions of Aggeโs ancestral land. Homes, economic trees, pathways and places associated with community history have either disappeared or become increasingly vulnerable. Some families have relocated, while those who remain continue to live with the fear that the next major surge may take another part of the community.

The protection of Agge must begin with a detailed technical assessment of the shoreline, the Ramos River estuary, tidal movement, sediment flow, ocean currents and the interaction between the river and the Atlantic Ocean.
The resulting intervention should combine properly engineered embankment, shoreline reinforcement, sand filling, land reclamation, and the restoration of vulnerable coastal vegetation. The objective must be to protect the remaining community, recover suitable portions of lost land and create a stable foundation for long-term development.
Reclamation alone will not be sufficient if the reclaimed land is left without protection. In the same way, constructing an embankment without addressing sediment movement and the forces driving the erosion may only transfer the problem elsewhere. Agge therefore needs an integrated coastal-management solution, not an isolated construction activity.
The project must also include regular monitoring and maintenance. The coastline is dynamic, and even the strongest protection structures require inspection, repairs and adaptation. Shoreline protection should not be treated as a contract that ends immediately after construction. It must be managed as a continuing responsibility.

If the prayers of Agge People are granted, and intervention is proposed, the people of Agge should not be left in the dark. They should know the approved project scope, contract value, funding source, contractor, expected commencement and completion dates, amounts released, and the actual progress of work. If funding or administrative problems delay implementation, the responsible authorities should explain the situation publicly. Communities living on the frontline of an ecological emergency should not be the last to know what is happening to projects intended to save their homes.

The environmental crisis facing Agge is ultimately a question of time. The longer effective intervention is delayed, the more land will be lost and the more expensive reclamation will become. Land already taken by the sea cannot easily be recovered. Families that relocate may never return. Fishing and commercial activities may decline. Community institutions may become increasingly exposed, and each generation may inherit a smaller homeland than the generation before it.
The people of Agge have protested, petitioned government agencies and repeatedly called for shoreline protection. They have continued to live and work beside an advancing sea. What they need now is not another promise but sustained and measurable action.
Protecting Agge is not simply an engineering project. It is the protection of a living Ijaw homeland, its history, culture, livelihoods and future.
