Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that no Nigerian artiste can match his catalogue of hit songs, backing up the claim with an offer to stake $1 million cash against any colleague willing to take him on.
The Omo Baba Olowo crooner made the bold declaration while speaking about his music catalog during a livestream with Davrel. "I'll put up a million dollars. I'll do it versus anybody. A million dollars cash. Nobody got more hits than me. Cash," he said.
The statement has since ignited fresh debate across the Nigerian music scene, with fans weighing in on who truly boasts the strongest catalogue among the country's leading Afrobeats acts, including contemporaries such as Wizkid, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tekno and Runtown. As of the time of filing, no artiste has publicly accepted his challenge.
This isn't the first time a hit-for-hit challenge has stirred the industry. Burna Boy issued a similar challenge during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, with former Mavin star Reekado Banks the only one to accept, though Burna Boy turned him down, saying he wasn't "a worthy challenger."
Speculation has also swirled online that Davido's remarks were directed at rap heavyweight Olamide, following viral chatter about a possible hit battle between the two. When pressed on the matter during a follow-up conversation with Davrel, Davido responded sharply, jokingly threatening to "slap" the streamer before offering a more serious clarification.
