YENAGOA — The Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF), in collaboration with Precept Technical Multi Link Limited, has concluded a vocational skills acquisition and empowerment training programme for spouses of junior police officers in Bayelsa State.
The programme, held at the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (IITH), climaxed with the presentation of starter packs to participants, including sewing machines, pressing irons, hair dryers, towels and other hairdressing materials.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of the Institute, Prof. Apuega Arikawei, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to maximize the opportunity by becoming self-reliant and employers of labour while supporting their families. He reaffirmed the institute's commitment to providing further skills development opportunities and commended the Nigerian Police Trust Fund for the initiative and its continued partnership.
Delivering a goodwill message, Engr. Ibrahim Bawa advised participants against selling the starter packs, urging them instead to use the items as a foundation for sustainable livelihoods, and described the empowerment as the beginning of greater opportunities for the beneficiaries.
Also speaking, Dr. Suliman Abba Abubakar of the NPTF said the programme was designed to promote a safer, crime-free society through economic empowerment. He thanked God for the successful event and commended the Bayelsa State Police Command for its support throughout the process.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, ACP Ebi Oweimo Perabo encouraged participants to use the accompanying cash support to secure workspaces and immediately begin practicing their newly acquired skills, similarly warning against selling the starter packs.
The event featured testimonials from participants, who expressed gratitude for what they described as a life-changing opportunity.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Suliman Abba Abubakar appreciated the Commissioner of Police, the institute's management, facilitators and other stakeholders for ensuring the success of the programme, while urging beneficiaries to make productive use of the equipment provided.
The Deputy Rector, delivering the vote of thanks, further encouraged participants to extend the programme's impact by creating employment opportunities for others in their communities.
The training underscores the Nigerian Police Trust Fund's commitment to empowering police families and promoting economic independence through vocational education.
