The people of New Jerusalem, the first Zion community in Arogbo Kingdom, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, are appealing for urgent humanitarian intervention after devastating floodwaters submerged an estimated 98 percent of residential buildings in the town, leaving the remaining structures in a dangerously precarious state.
New Jerusalem, located a few kilometres from Arogbo Town in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, is one of several communities across the state currently battling severe flooding, but residents say it has become among the worst affected. The rising waters have destroyed properties, displaced families, and disrupted livelihoods, leaving residents without adequate access to shelter, clean drinking water, food, or healthcare.
In an appeal issued by Pharm. Allen S.E., the community is calling on the general public, traditional rulers, political leaders, and humanitarian organizations across the Arogbo Kingdom and beyond to step in before the crisis deepens further. The appeal notes that New Jerusalem has historically been one of the most electorally active communities in Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom, consistently delivering strong voter turnout during elections, and urges the same leaders who have relied on that support to now reciprocate with relief assistance.
The statement specifically calls on the Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government, High Chief Caleb Ebimobowei Molos, to visit the community, assess the scale of the disaster firsthand, and provide emergency relief materials to affected families. It also appeals to SHC Bibopiri Ajube, the Beleukoriwei of Arogbo Ibe, acknowledging his prior humanitarian support to flood victims across the Apoi axis of Ese-Odo LGA, and urging that New Jerusalem be included in that continuing effort.
The appeal extends further to political office holders, philanthropists, and other influential figures across the Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom, describing the community's needs as a matter of survival rather than luxury. Organizers are calling for coordinated, immediate action, warning that further delay risks deepening the humanitarian toll on the community's displaced residents.
