Ride-hailing company Uber has announced the closure of its operations in Nigeria, ending a 12-year run in the country.
The company informed users that the shutdown would take effect on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. It said the decision followed a comprehensive review of its Nigerian business.
Uber entered the Nigerian market through Lagos in 2014 and grew into one of the country’s leading ride-hailing platforms, connecting passengers with independent drivers.
In its farewell message, the company thanked Nigerians for relying on the platform for daily commutes, social visits and other journeys over the years.
Uber acknowledged that its departure could disrupt users’ routines and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
The development represents a major shift in Nigeria’s competitive ride-hailing sector, where Uber has operated alongside several local and international platforms for more than a decade.
Customers with unresolved account issues have been advised to contact the company by September 23, 2026, the deadline for submitting final enquiries as Uber completes its exit from Nigeria.
