High Chief Godfrey Tare Pondi, General Manager, Operations, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has disclosed that High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemuopolo, popularly known as Tompolo, was personally spending nearly N150 million monthly to help maintain peace in Bayelsa State before the establishment of Tantita.

Pondi made the disclosure while addressing stakeholders, explaining that the spending reflected the scale of resources Tompolo committed to security and stability in the state.

He also revealed that Tantita currently has more than 500 people on its payroll in Yenagoa alone, highlighting the company's growing employment footprint in Bayelsa.

The figures offer a different perspective on Tompolo's role in the Niger Delta. Beyond the politics surrounding his name, Pondi's account points to a sustained financial commitment toward peace and community stability, which later evolved into a more structured security organisation through Tantita.

Tantita's growing workforce also gives the company an economic dimension. Hundreds of Bayelsans now earn livelihoods through an organisation involved in the protection of critical infrastructure and security operations across the Niger Delta.

For Bayelsa and the wider Niger Delta, the bigger question is whether this model of local participation can contribute to lasting peace, employment and the protection of critical national assets.
