Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election after securing victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won 11 local government areas in the election.

The result gives Adeleke a clear majority across the state and confirms his return to the Osun Government House following the conclusion of the governorship poll.

The election, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, featured a competitive contest between Adeleke, Oyebamiji and other candidates, with results collated from the state’s 30 local government areas.

Adeleke established an early lead during the collation of results, winning several key local government areas, including Iwo, Ede South and others. In Iwo, the Accord candidate polled 27,085 votes against Oyebamiji’s 19,660, while in Ede South, Adeleke secured 26,188 votes compared with Oyebamiji’s 6,219.

The election was, however, marked by reports of vote-buying, technical difficulties involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, delays in the arrival of election officials and isolated incidents of violence in some parts of the state.

Despite the challenges, collation proceeded across the state, with Adeleke maintaining his lead as results from the local government areas were announced.

The victory represents a significant electoral setback for the APC and Oyebamiji, who had campaigned on the platform of the ruling party and received support from several prominent political figures ahead of the election.

The outcome now places Adeleke in a stronger position to continue his administration in Osun State, while the APC will be left to assess its performance after winning 11 local government areas.

The final result brings the keenly contested Osun governorship election to a close, with Adeleke emerging as the clear winner based on the results declared across the 30 local government areas.
